Talking tobacco
Six weeks ago I was interviewed, via Zoom, by a journalist from Tobacco magazine in Hungary.
We talked about a lot of things, including Forest, the generational ban, and illicit trade. Part one has been published in the October issue of the magazine, but there’s an English version online, if you’re interested..
Notes on … Michael Heath
The Spectator has just published a book entitled ‘Best of Notes on … from kippers to jeans and everything in between’.
It’s illustrated by legendary cartoonist Michael Heath who recently celebrated his 90th birthday, and features contributions from the likes of Rod Liddle, James Delingpole, Julie Burchill and … my son.
The Hitch encounters a hitch
The New Statesman last week announced the launch of a new gossip column.
They’re calling it The Hitch ‘to honour one of our greatest contributors by keeping his spirit alive’, but they’ve run into a bit of trouble.
Update: They’ve changed The Hitch to The Pygge!
Down Nestles Lane
According to reports, Nestlé is to cut 16,000 jobs over the next two years.

Ooh, friend!
I’ve often warned vaping activists not to get too close to the likes of Action on Smoking and Health, and NEVER consider them friends.
Why? Because the endgame of the tobacco control industry isn’t to make smoking history, it’s to eradicate ALL recreational nicotine products.
Battle of Ideas: 20th anniversary
The Battle of Ideas celebrates its twentieth anniversary next weekend.
Founded in 2005 by Claire Fox, director of the Academy of Ideas, it’s an annual event that fully lives up to its motto ‘Free Speech Allowed’, albeit in a thoughtful and respectful way.
Wild foraging
After 33 years of marriage my wife says it’s quite hard to think of anything to buy me for Christmas or on my birthday.
Nevertheless, she is quite inventive when it comes to presents. Last Christmas, for example, she enrolled me on a one day forage and food course so we could go foraging for wild edibles followed by a wild food lunch.
Conviction politics
I’m not best placed to comment on the atmosphere at the Conservative Party conference because I was only in Manchester for 24 hours.
Nevertheless, here are some thoughts on CPC25 and Forest’s fringe event in the TPA Think Tent.
