William thinks I’m a “lefty drongo”. Has he ever read this blog?

In case you missed it, I was described as a ‘lefty drongo’ in a comment written in response to Saturday’s post about the Falklands War.

According to William Johnstone:

How can you say "Had we lost the war, or reached some sort of settlement with Argentina without going into battle (as the Americans wanted), Margaret Thatcher would not have survived a moment longer as PM and she would now be no more than a footnote in history"?

FYI, Mrs Thatcher did more for this country than any other PM since Churchill. She gave us back our pride and feeling of loyalty. We became a top nation again. The list of her achievements are large, but no doubt a lefty drongo like you would never acknowledge them.

In reply I wrote:

I agree, William. In my opinion Margaret Thatcher is the greatest PM in my lifetime and I shed a tear when she died. I was also standing among the crowds a few feet from her funeral cortège when it passed by en route to St Paul’s Cathedral.

In 1982 however she was deeply unpopular and her necessary economic policies had yet to offer dividends. Had her government ‘lost’ the Falklands to Argentina she would almost certainly have been forced to resign by her many enemies in the Conservative party and elsewhere.

As for being called a “lefty drongo”, that’s a first. William must be new to this blog.
