“No Monkees means no XTC”
Each Sunday I have been highlighting one or two songs by the English pop group XTC who recorded 14 studio albums (two as the Dukes of Stratosphear) between 1978 and 2000.
Today, following the death of The Monkees’ Mike Nesmith, I thought it might be appropriate to post 'You Bring The Summer' which was written by XTC's Andy Partridge for The Monkees’ Good Times! album in 2016.
Recorded to mark the band’s 50th anniversary, Good Times! was critically well-received. It was also the band’s highest charting album since the Sixties and the lead single was ‘You Bring The Summer’.
A self-confessed Monkees' fan, Partridge told Goldmine magazine, "They were a great template for me. No Monkees means no XTC."
